Finding Time
I think the hardest part about my art journey at the moment is finding time to keep painting. I’m a full-time worker for the moment, and I’m a student, so time is a scarce resource for me. I try my best to do what I can to find time to paint and get into a creative mindset. Finding balance is a struggle at this point in my life.
The lack of time I have is a big reason why I am unable to take in commissions at the moment. The only commission I have agreed to is for a family friend who understands that I won’t be able to give them a set time frame for when the piece will be done. This particular piece is one I may have to do in acrylic just because I don’t want to keep this buyer waiting, but I also think that for the piece that I am about to create, acrylic may just be the more acceptable medium.
The struggle isn’t just finding time to paint. It’s also finding time to build my social media page and gain traction in the art world. I find myself sitting in my car before an eight-hour shift, editing videos and making time to interact with others in order to help build a following, even if it’s not the following I had hoped for.
Luckily for me, my education will be over in January of 2027, and I will have graduated with an accounting diploma. Even starting in September, I believe I may have more time for art, as I will be a part-time student looking for work, and most of my courses will be online, which means less commuting and more time for art.
As much as being unemployed scares me, I have a feeling that having some time to myself will be nice. I also think that having more time to work on my art and focus on school will be great as well. I know that in the end, it will all work out for the best.
